I still don’t know how to switch between the author-date and numbered styles for citations.

In LaTeX, all these things are handle by the article class by default or by well-known options or well-know packages. Perhaps there is no single “switch” because each template implements this differently perhaps.

For citations, it’s generally #set bibliography(style: ..) or set cite(style: ..). I have hardly seen LaTeX documents that are not based on article, but I think it’s good that these customization knobs are built-in in Typst, net dependent on a template/class.

However, things look different if you try to customize things already set by a template, or customize things that are not predefined concepts built into Typst – say, theorems. This older discussion is very relevant here:

TL;DR: in my experience it is difficult or impossible to “tweak” Typst templates to change some layout policies without copying and modifying its source code. Is it just that we are collectively bad at writing templates, or a fundamental design flaw or missing feature in the Typst language? Context I’ve been using Typst for various documents for a few months now (free-form documents, talk slides, more structured document looking like math research papers). My experience is that “packages” work …
