When aligning 2 equations leaves gaps in shorter equation, can I center the shorter bits?

So this is what I got without spending too much time on it. It is not perfect by any means, but at least a little better than before (I hope):

    &2^2 & =4 <=> 4^(1/2) & =2=sqrt(4),
    2 & dot 2 & =4 <=> op("") 4/2 & =2=4 dot 1/2
