Adding a footnote near the bottom of a page forces a pagebreak?

I’ve used footnotes for the first time but I happened to place a footnote near the bottom of a page and it forced a pagebreak.

Here is a MWE:#lorem(650)#footnote[#lorem(100)] #lorem(200).
You can see that the footnote gets placed on the last word of the first line on the second page, but there is now too much blank space at the bottom of the first page.

Is there a way to solve this? For example, a way for the footnote to show only its first line in the page and the rest in the next page (to minimize the space taken up by the footnote in the current page thus reducing the number of “lines of the page such that placing a footnote in it forces a pagebreak”? I can’t think of a way to avoid this issue completely but maybe there is :slight_smile:

There is also another solution to apply to only some footnotes and not all.

Footnotes can break across pages, in your example it was just avoided as part of standard widow/orphan prevention. You can disable this for footnotes like this:

#show footnote.entry: set text(costs: (widow: 0%, orphan: 0%))
