Cannot open any Projects in the Web App

Hello guys,

I hope you’re having a great day! Since yesterday I have the following problem:

No matter whether I want to create a new project or open an existing one, I get the error “Core was destroyed” and a popup “The compiler crashed.”. After some time the error message changes to “We could not initialize Typst because your device ran out of memory. Try closing this tab and opening a new one.”.

I have a MacBook Air M4 with 16gb RAM and am using the Safari browser. I checked the RAM usage and it shouldn’t be a limiting factor. I get the same error messages when trying to open the project on my iPhone.

Do you have any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks for letting me know!

If you are on MacOS/iOS 26, I’d start by trying another browser. From all I’ve read Safari on Tahoe is chock full of bugs!

Looks like you’re right! Tried another browser and everything works again. Let’s just hope they’ll fix those bugs asap; I don’t really want to mess around with two browsers :grimacing:

Thanks, Mark!

I haven’t got on with Safari for decades, so use various Chrome-based browsers, but for Typst I use iCab, which I really like. I’d use it as my default, but it doesn’t interface with 1Password, unfortunately.

We are aware of this issue and actively investigating it. Unfortunately, it is rather difficult to pin down. See here for more details and updates: Typst cannot load the compiler on macOS 26.2, iOS 26.2, iPadOS 26.2 · Issue #734 · typst/webapp-issues · GitHub

I don’t know if it will helps but iCab on the Mac, WebKit based, has never shown any problem loading the WebApp compiler. I am just testing out Orion on the Mac, also WebKit based, and that is loading the compiler without problem.

Safari, which hasn’t been my browser of choice for years and is reported to be highly problematic in its latest incarnations, on testing also seems to be loading the compiler for me.

That said, I am still on MacOS Tahoe 26.1 on an M1 MacBook Air.
