Hi! WebP is an image format very well suited for archival purposes, because it supports both lossless and lossy compression, as well as alpha transparency. So, I’d like to know: are there any plans to support it in Typst?
No, the plan is to support is through the plugin system instead of having it built-in.

Oh, it’s sad, but at least is viable… thank you for answering!
A community member, @frozolotl is currently hard at work to create a new API in Typst which makes it easier to write plugins for additional image formats. According to their talk, they have a prototype that supports, among other image formats, WebP. So support for WebP might be just around the corner.

There are already plugins available, e.g. grayness – Typst Universe can work with webp.

Thank you! It’s a bit convoluted though…
yes I know, unfortunately it’s currently not possible to be simpler. This might change with the coming typst versions though.
