The automatic Activty Summary is unappreciated

I’m pretty salty right now about having had to manually uncheck the Activity Summary check box. Unsolicited Email is never acceptable.

This is a Discourse default. I’ve adjusted the “Default email digest frequency” to “never”. Though, presumably this means in the future nobody will even find out about this feature. (I don’t think there’s a prompt in the onboarding.)

PS: I don’t think the snarky tone was necessary. A friendly “Looks like the automatic activity summary is enabled for everyone by default. Perhaps this could be turned off?” would have done the job.

I thought the default was quite convenient, especially to warn new users and ones not visiting frequently of replies to their posts.

There is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email allowing the user to stop receiving after the first one it if annoys them.

My opinion: I would have left it as is. For what it matters.

Replies to own posts are irrelevant, since you are automatically being subscribed to your own topics. I have the summary disabled after the first time I got it, and I get emails and notifications for all relevant stuff just fine. So that thing should not affect this use case.

As Andrew mentioned, the change only affects the “digest” (which shows you recommended topics). General email notifications are still enabled by default.

Thank you, I appreciate the fix. Sorry for the snarky tone, my feelings demanded to be heard, and I tamed them as much as I was able.
