Typst Handbook Update: Here is the version in English

Continuing the discussion from I wrote a Typst handbook:

The manual I had created was entirely in Italian.

After several requests, I have finally finished translating it into English.
On the GitHub repository (“https://github.com/CRStefano/Typst-Handbook-A-Comprehensive-Guide”), you’ll find various files, the images used, and no longer just a single “main” file, but:

  • main_it.typ (the main typ in Italian)

and

  • main_en.typ (the main typ in English)

Of course, the repository will now include not only the PDF of the manual in Italian but also the one in English.

As always, any feedback is most welcome!
Thank you all for your feedback, advice, and comments.

Hi,

Thank you so much for this. I am one of the people that you describe your handbook is for:

• Professionals who want beautiful documents without depending on Word
• The curious who love understanding how things work
• Anyone who has never programmed.

Except that I am no longer a “professional” of any kind (ex linguistics lecturer coming up to 81), and although I have “never programmed” and “started from zero”, for the last 18 months I have been stumbling my way through using Typst for my recipe collection and other projects with the help of many on the forum while I try to work out what’s going on from the online documentation.

So I really welcome your handbook. I have just downloaded it; although my French is fluent and I have a smattering of Spanish, I thought I’d wait until you made your English translation available. I hope it will help me solve some of my current issues, and will send you any comments or suggestions when I’ve been through it.

I am also a long-term Scrivener user. There is a certain amount of interest in Typst among the Scrivener community, so I have posted there to publicise it:

I am in the process of creating a pure-Typst oriented Scrivener project format, which I will post there. Understanding Typst better thanks to your handbook will, I expect, be immensely beneficial for that.

Hi Mark, thank you so much for this message, it genuinely made my day.
First, the good news: the English translation is now available, so you don’t have to wait any longer (the English .typ file is called: main_en.typ (it’s pretty self-explanatory, I’m not very creative…)) (this post is just to let you know that the English version is out! :upside_down_face:).
I hope it helps you sort out some of your current issues.
It means a great deal that the handbook reaches exactly the kind of reader I had in mind.
Honestly, teaching yourself Typst from zero (at 81) is the best embodiment of “from zero to hero” I could have hoped for. I hope that when I’m 80, I’ll still have the clarity of mind and the desire to learn new things, I have the utmost respect for you.

Please do send any comments or suggestions once you’ve been through it: I’m actively fixing things as readers report them, so nothing is too small. And thank you for spreading the word in the Scrivener community, a pure-Typst Scrivener project format sounds genuinely useful, and I’d love to see it when it’s ready (and I’m always ready to pitch in!).
All the best,
Stefano Coelati Rama
