We realized that our guidance on what we hope for in answers on the forum was a bit short and have therefore extended the Answering section in How to post in the Questions category . I’ll copy that part here with emphasis on the changes, but please refer back to the main post for the most up-to-date version:
Answering
Thank you for answering questions on this Forum! Your answers should try to solve the problem at hand. Great answers often include a short markup sample or links. If the original poster’s (OP’s) question is not completely clear from the original post, please ask clarifying questions before answering.
Here are some things to keep in mind when answering questions:
OP may not yet have the depth of understanding of Typst that you have, so be sure to meet them where they are.
When referencing existing resources, explain how they are relevant. When referencing the Typst Discord server , prefer to quote relevant parts since Discord is a closed platform.
If a question is answered in an existing resource, explain how it solves the problem. Write as if OP had seen that resource, but not managed to apply it to their specific situation. This is especially important when the existing resource is part of the Typst reference , or if solving the problem requires combining information from multiple resources.
Code alone is usually not enough for a good answer. Explain the critical parts, and/or reference places where OP can find out more about them.
Keep future readers in mind: be specific enough to solve OP’s problem, but general enough that future readers benefit from your answer.
You can find unanswered questions by opening the Questions category and selecting “Unsolved” in the third dropdown.
If you see that there is a question that many people have, e.g. on Discord or StackOverflow, but is missing an answer here, you can post a new thread with the question as if you had it and a reply with the answer.
