Hey, will the Typst website (especially the docs) add community multi-language support (maybe with Crowdin or sth else)?
Reading English is a nightmare for non-native English speakers TwT.
From another perspective, multi-language support can also make it easier for more people to understand and learn Typst.
It’s not exactly the same topic, but there has been previous discussion on having the forum allow different languages, in my opinion some applies here:
Personally I think that translated docs are a good idea but it’s a bit too early for this to be supported officially by Typst:
- there are still a few things that require larger breaking changes coming in the future (e.g. user-defined types, changes to the styling system) that will require rewrites, and thus rewrites of docs. If the content was already translated, more work would be invalidated. As long as contributors understand this it’s ok, but it may put some people off.
- the docs themselves will be migrated to Typst once HTML support is mature enough. That means that the setting up of translation software itself would also be invalidated soon.
The second point is in my opinion a dealbreaker for doing anything right now, except for keeping translation in mind when deciding how the new docs will be structured.
In the meantime, I think there are already unofficial translations, although it’s of course harder to keep these up-to-date without infrastructure in place. Maybe someone else who uses/maintains one can comment here.
EDIT – I found at least one:
Another place unofficial docs may be discovered from (although there doesn’t seem to be a relevant link there yet):
