How to make an image full page wide in normal flow?

I would like to have fixed height and the image to go from left edge to right of the paper (ie; covering the margins). To keep the aspect ratio, I expect it will have ‘cover’. I have not been able to get it to work with place. The suggestions I have seen involve foreground and such.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by “keep the aspect ratio”, as you can’t both have a fixed height & width while keeping an image’s aspect ratio. Do you mean you want to remove the excess from the bottom/top? if so, you can use the block’s clip parameter.

It’s the height that I want fixed. The width of the image can be whatever, but it has to span the full width of the page up to the specified height. So, this should work for landscape or portrait images. I see some new stuff already in your code that might be what I need… page.width and clip etc…

I’ve got it to work using your code:

  let banner-container =  context {
      place(
        dx: -2.5cm,
        block(
          height: banner-height,
          width: page.width,
          clip: true,
          image(
            banner-image.path,
            width: 100%,
            height: 100%
          )
        )
      )
    }

but it’s taken out of the flow I think, because text seems to over it.

Ah, my bad. Just use move instead of place:
